How Much Should a Website Actually Cost in India? A Real Breakdown

Search this question and you'll get quotes anywhere from ₹500 to ₹5 lakh, with no obvious reason why. That range isn't a scam - it's a few genuinely different things all being called "a website," and it's worth understanding what actually drives the number before you pick one.

Why the range is this wide

A ₹500 "website" is usually a drag-and-drop builder you assemble yourself on a platform like Wix or WordPress.com - real, but you're doing the work, and you're often locked into that platform's own ongoing subscription to keep it live. A ₹50,000+ website is usually custom-coded, built from scratch for one specific business, with functionality a template genuinely can't do - a real booking system, a custom dashboard, something no off-the-shelf theme covers.

Most small businesses don't need either end. They need a real, professionally-built site on a proven template - genuinely different from a DIY builder, but not custom software either. That's the middle ground most flat-fee agency pricing actually lives in, and it's worth knowing which one you're being quoted before comparing numbers.

The costs that show up after you've already paid

The number you're quoted upfront is rarely the whole story. Domain renewal, hosting renewal, and SSL certificates are all real, recurring costs - ask directly whether they're bundled into the price you're seeing, or billed separately later. A quote that looks cheaper upfront can end up costing more in year two once these show up as separate line items you weren't expecting.

The other real trap: who actually owns your domain and hosting once the site is live. Some agencies register these in their own name, not yours - which sounds fine until you want to leave, and discover you don't actually control the thing you paid for. Always confirm the domain gets registered in your name, not theirs.

What a fair, flat price actually looks like

A genuinely fair quote is one number that includes the build, the domain, the hosting, and the SSL certificate for the first year - no "starting from," no separate line items that appear after you've committed. Ours, for what it's worth, is flat: ₹3,999 for a focused 4-5 page site, ₹6,999 for a larger one - both bundled with domain, hosting, and SSL for year one, both delivered on a fixed timeline. Not because that's the only fair way to price a website, but because it's the version of "fair" we could actually commit to and stand behind.

When paying more is genuinely the right call

None of this means the cheapest option is always right. A real booking system, an inventory-linked e-commerce store, a custom customer dashboard - these are genuine engineering work, not a template with your logo swapped in, and they honestly cost more because more actual work goes into them. The mistake isn't paying more for real complexity. It's paying agency prices for what a template could have done just as well.

The real question isn't "what's the cheapest website" - it's "what does my business actually need, and is this quote honest about what's included." See our own flat pricing, or ask us on WhatsApp if you're not sure which category your business actually falls into.
